Multiple Evanescent White Dot Syndrom (MEWDS), (Colour Image, FFA)

Retina -> Aquired Macular Diseases
41 years, female, complaining of photopsia for one week, with visual acuity of 20/20. Funduscopy revealed spots difficult to define and gray-white lesions in the posterior pole, mainly temporal to the fovea. Fluorescein angiogram (FA) showed early hyperfluorescent dots with late staining. Multiple evanescent white dot syndrome (MEWDS), an entity belonging to the group of white dot syndromes. MEWDS is characterized by pale spots at the posterior pole as a sign of inflammatory changes in the choroid and pigment epithelium. These spots are sometimes difficult to define by fundoscopy. Angiography and autofluorescence are excellent methods to demonstrate subretinal spots in MEWDS. Literature Ophthalmologe. 2012 May 2.
