TRAUMATIC MYDRIASIS

TRAUMATIC MYDRIASIS
A patient with irregular pupil and iris sphincter tears after blunt trauma due to a shuttle cock striking the eye directly. When the eye is struck, the cornea is flattened and the intra-ocular pressure rises rapidly. The anterior chamber is compressed and the pupil is forced to dilate rapidly which may tear areas of the sphincter pupillae, causing traumatic mydriasis.
