Atlas of Ophthalmology

This is a 22 month old child who presented at 17 months of age with a large angle esotropia of 35 prism diopters and a right eye fixation preference. She was found to have hypermetropia with a mild anisometropia on cycloplegic refraction. She was placed in her full prescription and on return visit, was found to be orthophoric at distance and near in her glasses. This is a very typical presentation for an hypermetropic accomodative esotopia: presentation around 18 months of age, deviation between 20-40 diopters (less than a congenital esotropia), and corrects fully with the cycloplegic refraction. There is no amblyopia or a high AC/A ration associated with this patient.
