63 years of age, female, slow detoriation of visual acuity in the last years; VA OD 0,1; OS 1/50 LT. Serpiginous choroiditis is an inflammatory choriocapillaropathy like MEWDS, APMPPE, or multifocal choroiditis. Choroidal inflammatory diseases have been classically grouped under the term of white dot syndromes (WDS), based on the appearance (white-yellow dots) of inflammatory fundus lesions. This descriptive terminology regroups a pot-pourri of posterior inflammatory conditions. C. P. Herbort (1) performed a classification of choroiditis according to disease mechanism: 1. Stromal choroiditis with (a) primary stromal choroiditis starting in the choroidal stroma like Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada disease, sympathetic ophthalmia, birdshot chorioretinitis, and (b) secondary stromal choroiditis like sarcoidosis, tuberculosis, syphilis. 2.Primary inflammatory choriocapillaropathies (PICCPs) like MEWDS, APMPPE, multifocal choroiditis (including PIC and POHS), serpiginous choroiditis, and AZOOR. Literature: (1) C. P. Herbort, M. Papadia, A. Mantovani. Classification of Choroiditis Based on Inflammatory Lesion Process rather than Fundus Appearance: Enhanced Comprehension through the ICGA Concepts of the Iceberg and Jellyfish Effects.
