Corneal Foreign Body, Sand Particle
The patient was riding a motorcycle, behind a truck. A particle flew into his eye. A piece of sand was found embedded in the cornea and he was treated with an antibiotic. A week after the acident he was found to have no reaction other than local hyperemia of the conjunctiva. Unlike metal, intrastromal sand (silica) is an inert material and does not incite a host response.
