This disease is caused by a spirochete (Borrelia burgdorferi) and transmitted by ticks. It has many similarities to syphilis. Here we see at the posterior pole a diffuse choroiditis and infiltration of the RPE layer leaving the inner retina intact. Fluid may accumulate under the retina.
