Avulsion of Optic Nerve Head

Avulsion of Optic Nerve Head
Following blunt trauma to the eye vision went down to hand motion. The fundus shows preretinal hemorrhages that hide partially the edematous retina around the deeply *cupped* disc. The large retinal vessels seem to be intact. Nine months later the visual acuity is no light perception. The optic nerve head looks white (glial scar) and is surrounded by hyperpigmentation. The retinal edema is gone and the vessels look normal. Choroidal folds in the macular area suggest hypotony.
